Read the Press Release.

Event Description:

Tenants will gather on the steps of the Multnomah County Courthouse to picket the ongoing evictions and violence we face. Since the beginning of the moratorium, over 2000 eviction cases have been filed at this courthouse alone, and tenants are being forced out of their homes daily.

  • What will happen in July when the meager protections our governments have provide evaporate?

  • What will happen when rent is due but rental assistance hasn’t reached the tenants yet?

There is still time to extend protections for tenants and to stop the violence of evictions. STAND WITH US!

No business as usual for landlords or judges on this day!

What: A picket. Bring your signs, banners, drums, noise makers.

When: Tues June 15th, starting at 9:30am. We will stay as long as we can hold the line. Dropping in and out is welcome, join us for as long as you are able.

Where: Multnomah County Circuit Court, 1200 SW 1st Ave, Portland, OR 97204.

Accessibility Info:

We will be updating this blog post with information as it becomes available leading up to the event. If you have an accessibility concern or request email us or contact us by phone 503-482-4170.

Space: The event takes place outside, mostly on sidewalks and in the streets. There will be an Information and Staging area one block west of the main event. There you can find a “Rest Tent” with seating, a medic station, and information tables for ongoing tenant organizing.

ASL Interpretation: We are working to confirm ASL interpretation for the speakers and chants throughout the event. As of now we haven’t secured an interpreter. If you have any leads on local interpreters, please email us.

Mobility: The bulk of the event will be active picketing. This can be done seated or standing, in place or while moving. We will have space where people can chose to be walking and space where others can be stationary while chanting and holding signs. If we are pushed off the sidewalks by law enforcement, we will march away from the courthouse and return, that loop is approximately 0.6 miles. We may do it more than once. If you choose not to march the loop, the staging area mentioned above is available to use and when the march returns we will regroup as a whole to continue the action.

Bathrooms: There are restrooms in the courthouse, but depending on the response to the action those may not be the best option. There is a public toilet, Portland Loo, three blocks down at 898 SW Naito Pkwy.
